The short answer

The plumber fixes the pipe. We fix the ceiling. Post-leak wall and ceiling restoration that disappears into the rest of the room.

What is in scope

What this service actually includes

A stopped leak is only half the job. What's left is the part you actually see every day: brown rings, bubbled paint, soft spots, and drywall tape lifting off the ceiling. This is the work we specialize in, bringing the surface back so completely that no one can tell where the damage was.

What this covers

  • Moisture check to confirm the framing behind the surface is dry before we close it up
  • Cutting back stained or softened drywall to solid, sound material
  • Patching, taping, and multi-coat skim to a level finish
  • Stain-blocking primer so old water rings don't bleed back through
  • Repainting the full wall or ceiling plane so there is no visible patch seam

What we'll refer out

  • We don't fix the plumbing itself, a licensed plumber should stop the leak first
  • Structural framing replacement or mold remediation is referred to the right specialist
  • We'll always tell you honestly when a job is bigger than a surface repair
Before and after

The whole point is that you can’t tell.

Drag the handle to compare. A proper restoration leaves no ridge, no ghost ring, and no seam to find later.

The anatomy of the fix

How ceiling restoration actually works

Each layer of a proper post-leak restoration, in order. On mobile this reads as a simple numbered checklist.

Confirm it's dry

We check moisture behind the surface. If it's still wet, we don't bury the problem, we let it dry or open it up.

Cut back to solid

Stained, soft, or delaminated drywall comes out until we reach material that's sound.

Patch & tape

New board is fitted, screwed off, taped, and set, flush with the surrounding plane.

Skim & sand

Multiple thin coats of compound, sanded smooth, feathered wide so the repair has no ridge.

Seal the stain

A stain-blocking primer locks out old water rings so they can't ghost back through the paint.

Repaint the plane

We paint the whole wall or ceiling, corner to corner, so the fix vanishes into the room.

Kitchen ceiling after an upstairs bathroom leak

Acton Single-family Water damage 2 days
Before
After

Plumber had already stopped the leak upstairs. We opened the stained section, confirmed the framing was dry, patched, skim-coated, primed, and repainted the full ceiling so there was no visible seam.

Every job is scoped in person and quoted before work starts, no surprise line items, no “while we were in there.”

Questions

Common questions about drywall & ceiling repair after a leak

My plumber already fixed the leak. What do you do?
Everything after that. We restore the drywall and ceiling the water damaged, cutting out the ruined material, patching, sealing the stain, and repainting so the room looks like nothing ever happened.
Will the water stain come back through the new paint?
Not when it's done right. We use a dedicated stain-blocking primer before repainting, which is what stops old water rings from ghosting back through the finish coat.
Do I have to repaint the whole ceiling?
For an invisible repair, usually yes, we paint the full plane, corner to corner. Spot-painting a patch almost always leaves a visible halo, and we'd rather do it once, properly.
What if you open it up and find mold or rot?
We stop and call you before doing anything else. Mold remediation and structural rot are specialist work; we'll tell you honestly what we found and point you to the right person.
